Obituary for Mona Isaacs
Mona Claire Isaacs, 57, became cancer free June 26, 2017 as she passed in the early morning at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond Kentucky. Mona was born in Berea Kentucky on December 27, 1959 to the late Charles “Shug” Isaacs and the late Blanche Nicholson Isaacs.
Mona was a graduate of Madison Central High School, and Eastern Kentucky University where she earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Math and Computer Science. Mona later served Eastern Kentucky University as the Associate Vice President of Information Technology. Among many professional contributions, her vision for a student-centered, campuswide mentoring program led to the formation of the EKU Gurus. Mona also served her community through her seat on the Madison County School Board where she served as chairperson. She helped guide the process for implementing all-day kindergarten in the district. Although she loved her community and had a strong belief in the power of education, her favorite job was that of mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Mona is survived by one daughter, Stevie Johnson (Sean) Cheesman; siblings, Judy (Gary)
Halstead, Mary (Bob) Eipert, and Charles (Krista) Isaacs. Three grandsons, Christopher
Sprowles, Nathaniel Sprowles, and Patton Cheesman. Nieces and nephews; Paula (Rick)
