Obituary for Levi Cox
It is with great sadness that the family of Levi Cox,(88), announces his passing on March 9, 2018, in Englewood, Florida after a brief illness.
Levi was born January 17, 1930, in Madison County, Kentucky, to Walton and Virgie (Wilder) Cox. He graduated from Kirksville High School in 1948 and Berea College in 1952. He married the former Mary Lillian Brown in 1950. They resided in Berea during their marriage and had four daughters. He was pre-deceased in death by his wife, Mary Lillian, a daughter, Mary Lynn, and son-in-law George (Patsy) Smith. He was a devoted father and will be greatly missed by daughters Patsy Smith (Doug Miller), Englewood, FL, Sheryl (John) Huysman, Moore Haven, FL, and Jeanie (Mac) Prewitt, Tampa, FL. He was extremely proud of his grandchildren’s accomplishments and faith in Christ; Brynn Huysman, Gainesville, FL, Tanner (Caitlin) Huysman, Davie, FL, and Cassidy Prewitt, Tampa, FL.
After graduating from College, Levi started work for Kentucky Artificial Association and milked cows for Berea College. He later worked at Parker Seal, co-owned Somerset Coin Laundry, and also owned I-75 Gulf Service Station at the Berea exit. He farmed 450 acres where he raised tobacco and cattle.
Levi is also survived by his wife Joyce (Wilson) of Richmond, KY, her four children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They lived together in Berea and later became full-time residents of Englewood, FL where Levi was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Levi was renowned for his love of gardening and the vegetables he provided to many friends and neighbors. He enjoyed fishing, Bluegrass music, and never met anyone he couldn’t strike up a conversation with. His value of education was instilled in his children and grandchildren and his ministry included being a caregiver for many family members throughout the years.
A celebration of life service in memory of Levi will be held on Friday, March 16 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Lakes Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday, March 15, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
